503A vs 503B compounding pharmacies for compounded supply — this distinction matters enormously:

Feature	503A	503B
Regulation	State Board of Pharmacy	FDA-registered
Prescription	Required (patient-specific)	Can compound without patient Rx
Testing	Varies by state	cGMP required
Scale	Small batches	Larger production
Quality consistency	Variable	Generally higher

I strongly recommend 503B facilities. The FDA oversight and cGMP requirements mean more consistent product quality.

I use the 503B option — best balance of quality, cost, and legality. The brand price is insane but insurance can help if you qualify.

Regarding compounded supply compounding legality: compounding pharmacies can legally produce semaglutide and tirzepatide while these drugs remain on the FDA shortage list. If/when the shortage resolves, the legal landscape may change.

Stay informed. The FDA shortage list is updated regularly. Current status as of my last check: semaglutide still in shortage, tirzepatide removed from shortage list. This directly impacts compounding availability.

Compounding pharmacy customer here with experience relevant to compounded supply.

I've ordered from 3 different compounding pharmacies over the past year. The quality variation is real — purity ranged from 94% to 101% of label claim based on independent Janoshik testing.

My current compounder (a 503B facility) has been consistently 98-101% purity across 6 orders. I pay $158/month vs $1,288 for brand. The savings are substantial and the product is equivalent in my experience.

Re: compounded supply — this applies whether you're using brand or compounded. The clinical principles are the same.
