On a suppressed appetite the winning strategy is protein density per unit of volume, not per calorie.

That reframing is the part I needed. Taking it to my next appointment.

Clinical perspective, offered as context rather than as advice.

DEXA scan update relevant to protein intake:

Scanned at months 0, 6, and 12. Here are the body comp numbers:

BaselineMonth 6Month 12
Total mass256 lbs226 lbs193 lbs
Fat mass96 lbs76 lbs43 lbs
Lean mass149 lbs151 lbs150 lbs
Body fat %41%31%22%

Lean mass preserved — actually GAINED 1-2 lbs thanks to progressive overload + 1.5g/kg protein. The protein intake discussion needs to include body comp data, not just scale weight.

The intervention that works is boring and well evidenced: resistance training two to three times a week at a genuine effort, protein at 1.4 to 2.0…

Pushing back on DebRD_ATL here. I think this board over-worries about lean mass. Some lean loss is obligatory — you need less muscle to move a smaller body, and preserving mass you no longer need is not a health outcome. The question is whether strength and function held, and mine did.

Adding the numbers, since they settle part of this. Say what you would expect to see if you were wrong, before you look. It is a small discipline and it changes what you notice.

Moderator note: the sourcing question belongs in the vendor section and has been split out. Thread quality here is what the rules are for. Keep it up.
